Evans Thoroughbred Racing
Stable News and Upcoming Races
2-3-12
Anatolia will make her next start in the 9th race at Delta Downs on Friday, February 10th. The one mile race is for non-winners of two lifetime races. She will break from post position #10 in the ten horse field. The race will mark the return of Carlos Marquez to the saddle. We are looking for them to team up for a big Friday run.
2-1-12
Green Card James will make his first start for Evans Thoroughbred Racing in the 8th race at Delta Downs on Wednesday, February 8th. The race is a claiming race at a distance of one mile. He will break from post position #6 in the ten horse field with jockey Carlos Marquez in the saddle. The veteran horse is training well for trainer Darren Jones and looks to be well placed for his first start at Delta Downs.
2-1-12
Green Card James and Anatolia were unable to draw into the final fields for their races on tomorrow. Green Card James will be re-entered today for a race next Wednesday and Anatolia will be re-entered Friday for a race the following Friday. Hopefully, we will have better luck at the entry box next time out.
1-26-12
Anatolia is on the Also-Eligible list for race #9 at Delta Downs on February 2nd. The race will cover one mile over the main track. We will need one horse from the main body of the field to scratch at final entry in order for her to make the race. The race appears to be a good spot for her, but we will have to wait and see if we are able to draw into the final field.
1-26-12
Green Card James is on the Also-Eligible list for race #6 at Delta Downs on February 2nd. The one mile race will be run over the main track. In order for him to draw into the race, we will need two horses from the main body of the field to scratch at final entry. The race looks like an excellent spot for his debut with us, but we will have to wait and see if we are able to draw into the Thursday race.
1-21-12
We have added 2006 California-bred gelding Green Card James to our stable. He comes to us with three career wins in 23 starts and over $72,000 in career earnings. His most recent win came in a route race at Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans in December. We look forward to watching him compete at Delta Downs and this Spring at Evangeline Downs.
1-18-12
Satoshi's Daemon is showing good improvement on the farm for the training group in Poplarville. As she continues to develop both physically and mentally, we will monitor her progress and look forward to her first official work and an exciting three year-old racing campaign.
1-15-12
Anatolia finished 5th in her extended seven furlong sprint race on yesterday. She broke well and stayed three to five lengths from the leader for most of the race. In the final stretch, she ran well finishing a little over 6 lengths behind the winner. We will look to return her back to her usual route race in her next start.
1-7-12
Anatolia breezed four furlong in :51.13 over a fast track at the Evangeline Training Center this morning. She will make her next start on Saturday, January 14th in race #9 at Delta Downs. The seven furlong claiming race is for Louisiana-bred non-winners of two lifetime races. We will have jockey Junior Inirio in the saddle once again when they break from post position #9 in the 10 horse field. She continues to improve and looks to be well placed for the Saturday run.
12-31-11
Grand Princess has been retired from racing. She will move on to a career as a broodmare.
12-17-11
Anatolia finished an impressive 2nd in a good field of Louisiana-bred fillies and mares tonight. Trainer Darren Jones and his team had her primed and ready to put in a big effort, and she did not disappoint. She broke sharply from the gate, and jockey Junior Inirio guided her immediately to the rail and settled in nicely. At the half way mark, they sat patiently in fifth place about eight lengths from the dueling leaders. After completing three-quarters of a mile, Junior asked her to make a move, and she responded accordingly. She began picking off rivals and moved into second place at the top of the stretch. She ran on gamely, easily maintaining her second place position by six-plus lengths over the third place finisher. She put in a huge effort, but could not reach the 5 year-old winning mare who won handily. It was a good bounce back race and a definite confidence builder. We will check her condition over the next few days and determine if she will get one more race in during her 3 year-old campaign or look to run her next year as a 4 year-old.
12-10-11
Anatolia completed a good four furlong breeze in :53.68 this morning at the Evangeline Training Center over a fast track. She will make her next start on Saturday, December 17th in race #2 at Delta Downs. The one mile claiming race is for Louisiana-bred non-winners of two lifetime races. We will have jockey Junior Inirio in the saddle when they break from post position #2 in the eight horse field. She continues to train well and should be competitive with this field.
12-9-11
Satoshi's Daemon arrived safely at the farm in Poplarville, Mississippi. After her inital evaluation and a little maintenance work, the training team will quickly move her into race training and begin building her confidence on the race track.
12-8-11
Satoshi's Daemon will be moved to the farm in Poplarville, Mississippi. She should arrive some time Friday morning where she will continue her training. She continues to progress very well physically, but her mental development is still a work-in-progress. The promising filly has a wealth of talent and has a very bright future ahead.
11-24-11
Anatolia finished 10th in her race last night. She was a well placed 6th at the half way mark just three lengths from the leader, but she did not respond when asked to run late. After the race we had her examined, and we may have determined the reason for the poor performance. We will continue to evaluate her and decide on the best course of action.
11-19-11
Satoshi's Daemon galloped very good in company at the Evangeline Training Center today. Her physical development is ahead of her racing knowledge, but we will continue to drill her on those things she will need to master before she is ready to go racing.
11-19-11
Grand Princess breezed four furlongs in :53.18 at the Evangeline Training Center over the fast main track. This was her second work since coming back from a little layoff. We will check her condition and look to get a few more works in her before looking to race in December.
11-18-11
Anatolia will make her next start on Wednesday, November 23rd at Delta Downs in race #9. The Louisiana-bred one mile claiming race will be run over the main track. We will have Carlos Marquez in the saddle again when they break from post position #4 in the ten horse field. We are looking for another strong effort after the class drop.
11-6-11
Grand Princess has been given some additional down time. We will look to work her officially again in a few weeks before looking to race.
11-5-11
Anatolia ran 6th last night in her one mile claiming race. She caught a strong field of out-of-state runners. The winner was a 5 year-old Kentucky-bred, who was easily the class of the field. Our jockey took Anatolia well off the pace early and tried to make one big run at the end. They passed a few, but with the bull ring that is Delta Downs, the finish line comes quickly. She established a new career best Equibase Speed figure for the third consecutive race, as she showed no problem running back after only nine days of rest. We will give her a little more down time and look to place her in the best position to be successful in her next race.
11-1-11
Anatolia will make her next start on Friday, November 4th at Delta Downs in race #9. The one mile race will be run over the main track and will mark the return of Carlos Marquez to the saddle when they break from post position #1 in the field of eight horses. We are hopeful that she has an uneventful trip, as she fits well with this field of fillies and mares.
10-31-11
Satoshi's Daemon is training well and continues her development as a racehorse. Provided she continues her development and makes continued progress, she will have her first official work on November 19th or November 26th. She is progressing well after her first full month on the training farm.
10-26-11
Anatolia finished 7th tonight against a strong field of Louisiana-bred fillies. Unfortunately, our scheduled jockey was unable to ride, however Junior Inirio stepped in for the mount. They broke alertly and were a well placed 5th along the rail through the first half of the race. As they approached the final turn, they began to make a forward move. At the top of the stretch, they encountered a wall of horses. Inirio decided to swing her wide and make a run. Unfortunately, she lost a little momentum and flattened out in the final drive. Her run was more than respectable in this Allowance and Stakes caliber field. We will check her condition and look to run her back again on a slight class drop.
10-22-11
Grand Princess breezed three furlongs in :38.43 at the Evangeline Training Center over the fast main track. The breeze was her first official work since returning to training. We will check her condition and plan her training accordingly.
10-20-11
Anatolia will make her Delta Downs debut in race #4 on October 26th in a Louisiana-bred Allowance race traveling one mile over the main track. We will have nationally ranked jockey Orlando Mojica in the saddle when they break from post position #1 in the 10 horse field. The race will represent the biggest challenge of her racing career to-date, but she is well rested, training well and is more than ready to meet the challenge.
10-12-11
Anatolia breezed five furlongs over the fast track in 1:06 at the Evangeline Training Center in preparation for race entry at Delta Downs this week.
10-8-11
Our racing stable is progressing nicely as we move into the 2011 Fall racing season. Trainer Darren Jones has Anatolia primed and ready to make race entry during the opening week of the Delta Downs Meet. Our newest addition, Satoshi's Daemon, is continuing her breaking and conditioning training as she is slowly learning what it will take to become a successful racehorse. Grand Princess is enjoying a little downtime, but will move back into training in a few weeks and will be ready to show her signature early speed in her next start. We are looking forward to an exciting racing season.
9-26-11
We are excited about the addition of Satoshi's Daemon to our racing stable. She is a 2009 Louisiana-bred filly by Southern States who is the son of stakes-placed winner Southern Halo who was the leading sire in Argentina 7 times while siring 170 stakes winners and 19 champions. The dam of our new prospect is Honalua Honey who broke her maiden on the turf with Maiden Special Weight company. She has produced four other foals of racing age with all becoming winners. Our new addition is a versatile prospect with a bright racing future.
9-23-11
Anatolia came out of her winning effort in great shape and ready to run again. We tried to make race entry on several occasions before the close of the Louisiana Downs meet, but unfortunatly none of our race selections made the race day card. She will continue to train in preparation for the Delta Downs meet which begins in mid-October.
9-9-11
Anatolia Wins!!!! In her sixth career start, Anatolia broke her maiden winning the one mile and seventy yards route race in impressive fashion. She broke sharply from the gate but was unhurried early. Our jockey, Carlos Marquez, allowed her to relax and settle during the early part of the race. After the half way mark, she began to pick up the pace and make her move, picking off horses one by one. At the top of the stretch, she took a slight lead, and at that point it was clear that it was going to be a two horse race for the win. With each stride, Anatolia appeared to gain more confidence, as her lone rival resigned that she would be second best tonight. Anatolia crossed the finish line 1 3/4 lengths ahead of the second place finisher and 11 1/2 lengths ahead of the third place finisher. We will check her condition over the next few days to make certain she is in good health after the huge effort and then determine if we will try for a race at Louisiana Downs.
9-2-11
Anatolia will make her next start in the 11th race at Evangeline Downs on Friday, September 9th. The race is a one mile and seventy yards route race to be run over the main track. Veteran jockey Carlos Marquez will be aboard when they break from post position #9 in the 11 horse field. She gave a big effort in her last race. The added distance and slower pace should allow her to be closer to the lead early and position her for a strong late run.
9-1-11
Grand Princess was scratched by the track veterinarian less than one minute before the race was set to start. With odds of 7/2 and sitting as the second choice by the betting public, GP was set to put in a big effort. Unfortunately, she was not going to get her chance this night. The ultimate winner of the race has the same running style as GP. She went straight to the front and did not look back. It was difficult to watch the race, because GP had beaten the winner by 2 lengths when they faced each other on May 20th. We will review our options with the speedy filly and plan accordingly.
8-29-11
Our horses have been moved to Traders Rest Farm, a full service training facility in Carencro, Louisiana, where they will continue their training. Both horses are doing well and appear to be quickly adapting to the new environment.
8-26-11
Grand Princess has been installed as the morning line third choice at odds of 4-1 for her race on Thursday, September 1st. The return of John Jacinto to the saddle and a slight drop in class gives her a great opportunity to break her maiden in the five furlong sprint.
8-26-11
Anatolia broke well from the starting gate tonight. She was well placed along the rail, as she let the speed horses duel on the front end. As they turned for home, she maintained her rail position and began to make a late move. She managed to weave her way through traffic to finish a solid 4th, a little over 6 lengths behind the winner and just 1/2 length behind the third place finisher. We will try to stretch her out just a little more in her next race in order to take advantage of her strong late kick.
8-25-11
Grand Princess is entered to run on Thursday, September 1st in race #8. The race will be a five furlong sprint run over the main track. Veteran jockey John Jacinto will return for his second mount aboard GP when they break from post position #6 in the 12 horse field. An early review of the race appears to place GP in a favorable position in this field of maidens.
8-20-11
Anatolia will make her next start in the 10th race on Friday, August 26th at Evangeline Downs. The race is a five and one-half furlong sprint to be run over the main track. We will have apprentice jockey Thomas Porche, III in the saddle when they break from post position #1 in the 12 horse field. We are expecting a big effort after some extended time off.
8-18-11
Grand Princess was not able to get the early lead as she did in some of her previous races. She broke a little slow, but was well ridden early as she was able to settle along the rail. Our jockey, Carlos Marquez, had her placed 4th as they turned for the finish, but the winner was much the class of the race. The winner won by 9 lengths over the second place finisher, with Grand Princess finishing 5th beaten by 11 lengths. We will check her condition over the next few days and see if one final run for the 2011 Evangeline Downs meet is possible.
8-13-11
Grand Princess came out of her last race in good condition. She will make her next start on Thursday, August 18th in the 1st race at Evangeline Downs. The race is a Maiden Claiming sprint traveling five furlongs over the main track. She will have capable jockey Carlos Marquez in the saddle when they break from post position #6 in the eight horse field. She is listed at morning line odds of 12-1. With her early speed running style, the shorter distance will give her a better opportunity of reaching the line first.
8-11-11
Grand Princess broke from the starting gate alertly and flashed her usual early speed. She went straight to the front and was able to take a full two length lead after four furlongs. At the top of the stretch, the cavalry charge began. She fought on gamely at the end finishing 3rd against a good field of maidens. We will check her condition and look to get one more run in before the meet ends.
8-5-11
Grand Princess will make her next start on Thursday, August 11th in the 6th race at Evangeline Downs. The race is a Maiden Claiming race going six furlongs over the main track. We have secured the services of one of the track's top jockeys in John Jacinto. They will break from post position #2 in the 13 horse field. She continues to train well and looks well placed in this field of maiden claimers.
8-5-11
Anatolia was scratched from her race today. She had a small accident in her stall earlier this week, and we chose not to run her until she has fully recovered. If all goes as planned, we will look to enter her in another race next week.
7-30-11
Anatolia will return to racing on Friday, August 5th in the 2nd race at Evangeline Downs. The race is a Louisiana Bred Maiden Claiming race going one mile over the main track. We will have jockey Roberto Villafan in the irons when they break from post position #7 in the 10 horse field.
7-30-11
Grand Princess breezed four furlongs in :51.94 on a fast main track at the Evangeline Training Center. We are looking to make race entry sometime next week.
7-25-11
Tensas Gray Girl has been sold. Unfortunately, the former stakes winner did not get an opportunity to run for us. We wish her well in her new career.
7-23-11
Anatolia breezed three furlongs from the starting gate in :37.4 over a fast main track at Evangeline Downs. Her time was fourth fastest of the 18 horses who breezed the three furlong distance. After some time off for rest and further physical development, she appears poised to resume her racing career. We are pointing her to a race scheduled for the first week of August.
7-20-11
Tensas Gray Girl breezed four furlongs in :52 on a fast main track at Evangeline Downs. Her time was fifth fastest of the 11 horses who breezed the four furlong distance. Unfortunately, the representatives for the State Veterinarian chose not to approve her for racing. We will monitor her condition and evaluate our options on her future as a race horse.
7-13-11
Grand Princess breezed four furlongs in :49.4 on a fast main track at Evangeline Downs. Her time was second fastest of the seven horses who breezed the four furlong distance.
7-2-11
Tensas Gray Girl was scratched by the veterinarian during the pre-race examination before the Louisiana Showcase Distaff. She is in great shape, and hopefully will get an opportunity to compete on the track soon.
6-29-11
Tensas Gray Girl will make her first start for Evans Thoroughbred Racing in the Louisiana Showcase Distaff Stakes on Saturday, July 2nd. The stakes race is race #10 on the Louisiana Showcase Night card of stakes races at Evangeline Downs. The one mile and seventy yards race will be run over the main track. We will have veteran jockey Roberto Villafan in the irons when they break from post position #8 in the nine horse field.
6-25-11
Tensas Gray Girl completed her last official breeze today in preparation for the Louisiana Showcase Distaff on Saturday, July 2nd at Evangeline Downs. She breezed four furlongs in :50.98 over a fast track at the Evangeline Training Center with jockey Roberto Villafan in the irons. Her time was 18th fastest of the 42 horses who breezed the four furlong distance.
6-22-11
Grand Princess finished a disappointing 10th in her five furlong sprint. The race was moved from the turf to the sloppy main track due to inclement weather. She did not take well to the off-track. We will look to race again soon under better weather conditions.
6-18-11
Tensas Gray Girl breezed five furlongs in 1:06.8 this morning at Evangeline Downs. The breeze was without company on the deep main track during the closing minutes of the final training session. The final nominations for the Louisiana Showcase Distaff closed with 16 nominations. The field will be limited to 12 starters, with preference given to horses with the highest lifetime earnings. TGG ranks seventh in career earnings, which means barring injury we will enter the holiday weekend stakes race. Trainer Shelton LeBlanc has mapped out a training schedule which should have her peaking at race time.
6-16-11
Grand Princess will make her next start on Wednesday, June 22nd in the 2nd race at Evangeline Downs. The race is a Maiden Special Weight (MSW) race going five furlongs over the turf course. We will have jockey David "Chip" Bourque riding for us again, and they will break from post position #8 in the ten horse field. She has been training well, and will look to break her maiden in her tenth career start.
6-15-11
Tensas Gray Girl has been nominated to the Louisiana Showcase Distaff. The $100,000 stakes race is for Louisiana-bred fillies and mares four years-old and upward, going one mile and seventy yards over the main track. She is a past stakes winner over the Evangeline Downs track, so stakes competition is not new to her. She continues to train well, and her stretch running style should fit well at this distance.
6-15-11
Grand Princess has been nominated to the Louisiana Showcase Ladies Sprint. The $100,000 stakes race is for Louisiana-bred fillies and mares three years-old and upward, going five and one-half furlongs on the main track. We will enter her in a Maiden Special Weight (MSW) five furlong sprint tomorrow, and if that race goes, we will not enter her in the stakes race. She will have other opportunities in the future, but for now we want to concentrate on breaking her maiden.
6-11-11
Tensas Gray Girl breezed five furlongs in 1:04.39 over the fast main track at the Evangeline Training Center this morning. She is every bit the horse we thought she was when we decided to claim her. She continues to train well in anticipation of her first start with Evans Thoroughbred Racing.
6-11-11
Grand Princess breezed four furlongs in :52.18 over a fast main track at the Evangeline Training Center this morning. The four furlong breeze was a good maintenance work for her, until we identify another good spot for her next race.
6-9-11
Due to an administrative error, we have been notified by the racing stewards that Grand Princess will be scratched from her race on Saturday. It is unfortunate, because she was listed as the 5-1 morning line third choice and was picked to win by Brisnet Handicapping Service. We will shore up our administrative deficiencies, and look to find another good spot for GP very soon.
6-8-11
Grand Princess will make her next start in the 6th race at Evangeline Downs on Saturday, June 11th. The race in a $15,000 Maiden Claiming sprint going five and one-half furlongs over the main track. We will have jockey David "Chip" Bourque in the saddle once again when they break from post position #9 in the nine horse field. Chip gave us a great ride in his last race aboard GP, when they just missed the win by 1/2 length. If she can duplicate the effort she gave in her last race, she has a great opportunity for the win.
5-27-11
Evans Thoroughbred Racing claimed Tensas Gray Girl in the 4th race at Evangeline Downs today from the successful barn of trainer Carl J. Woodley and Pegasus Stable. The big gray Louisiana-bred six-year old mare won the six furlong sprint with a strong late kick with little urging. She is by Ide who is one of the top Louisiana sires and out of the Cozzene mare Cool Kiss. She is a versitile, experienced stakes winner of over $130,000 and is able to sprint or run a route of ground. We are extremely blessed to have her as a part our stable. We will check her condition over the next few days and look to place her in a good spot for her first race with our stable. She will be trained by Shelton LeBlanc.
5-25-11
Anatolia broke quickly from the gate and was a well placed third after the first turn. She sat third throughout the backstretch, stalking the leaders to the top of the stretch. As the field turned for the finish, she looked primed to make a good final run. Unfortunately, she did not have anything left for the finish and crossed the line in 8th. We will check her condition over the next few days and evaluate our options on her future as a racehorse.
5-20-11
Grand Princess gave us the big effort we were looking for tonight in her six furlong sprint. She broke quickly from the gate and went straight to the lead, while setting a blistering pace. Our jockey, Chip Bourque, kept her to task as she out dueled rivals approaching the top of the stretch. She was able to take a clear lead in the stretch, and looked to capture the win as they turned for home. In mid stretch, she drifted out ever so slightly as the late runners approached. However, she finished in a very impressive dead heat for 2nd place, just missing the win by 1/2 length. We will check her condition over the next few days and look to put her in a similiar position for her next race.
5-19-11
Anatolia will make her next start at Evangeline Downs in the 10th race on Wednesday, May 25th. The race is a Maiden Claiming race going one and one sixteenth miles. We will have veteran jockey Rex A. Stokes, III in the saddle for the route race. Rex is currently ranked in the top 5 in wins for the Evangeline Downs Meet. They will break from post position #9 in the nine horse field.
5-14-11
Grand Princess will make her next start in the 6th race at Evangeline Downs on Friday, May 20th. The race is a six furlong sprint on the main track. We will have jockey David "Chip" Bourque in the saddle when she breaks from post position #12 in the full field of 14 horses. She has been training well. With the adjustments we have made since her last race, we are looking for a big effort this time out.
5-14-11
Anatolia finished 11th in her race today beaten by 14 lengths. She broke well, but was checked after the first quarter mile. Through the turn, she could not get to the rail and was forced to take a wide trip. While the pace of the race was absent of speed, she still had difficulty keeping pace. We will look to make an aggressive class drop in her next race and stretch her out to at least one mile. She has always shown more stamina than speed, so hopefully a combination of the class drop and additional distance will allow her to be more competitive in her next start.
5-11-11
Anatolia is scheduled to make her 2011 Evangeline Downs debut in the 3rd race on Saturday, May 14th. The six furlong race is a Special Accredited Maiden Claiming race for Louisiana Bred three year-old fillies. Veteran jockey David "Chip" Bourque will be in the saddle for the Saturday afternoon sprint. They are slated to break from post position #9 in the full field of 14 horses.
5-7-11
Anatolia worked a two-minute mile over a fast track today at the Folsom Training Center. The track clockers picked her up at :38.95 for the final three furlongs. The work was not for time, but we were more than pleased with her willing finish. If she comes back in good condition, we will enter her next week for a race scheduled to run Saturday, May 14th.
4-24-11
Grand Princess broke well from the gate in her race yesterday and was a well placed third in the early going. As the field made the turn for the finish, she lacked the final kick needed to keep pace with the leaders and finished 9th. She appears to have come out of the race in good condition and should be able to run back soon.
4-20-11
Grand Princess will make her 2011 Evangeline Downs debut in the 11th race on Saturday, April 23rd. The race is a $5,000 Maiden Claiming race for fillies and mares going five furlongs over the main track. She will have veteran jockey Josh Romero in the saddle when they break from post position #11 in the 12 horse field.
4-8-11
Grand Princess breezed an easy three furlongs in :37.2 today at Evangeline Downs, with jockey David "Chip" Bourque in the saddle. Her time was 6th fastest of the 14 horses who breezed the three furlong distance. If all goes as planned, we will look to enter her in a race scheduled to run in two weeks.
4-3-11
Anatolia galloped a little yesterday after taking a few weeks off to recover from a slight muscle pull in her shoulder. She was eager to get back to work, but we will gradually increase her workload over the next few weeks. If all goes well, she should be ready to race towards the end of the month.
3-19-11
Anatolia was scratched from her race today. She was still a little sore from her work last weekend, so we decided to give her a little more time. We will see if one more run is possible before the Fair Grounds Meet ends. If not, we will start preparing for the Evangeline Downs Meet which starts in April.
3-13-11
Anatolia will make her next start on Saturday, March 19th in the 11th race at Fair Grounds Race Course. The race is a Louisiana Special Maiden Claiming race for Louisiana-bred three year-old fillies. The five furlong sprint will be run over the main track. We will have veteran jockey David "Chip" Bourque riding once again. They will break from post position #6 in the 11 horse field. She has been training well and has matured as a race horse. We are hopeful that she will be able to put it all together in her third career start.
3-13-11
Grand Princess had a rough go of it today. It started when we had to make an unexpected jockey change before the race. Once the race started after an hour long delay, her luck did not get any better. The #4 horse to her right stumbled out of the gate causing the jockey to fall off. The horse then veered into her path causing her to hesitate. She also encountered trouble on her left, when she was bumped by the #2 horse coming out of the gate. She trailed the field and moved up slightly, finishing 8th. She will now start preparing for the Evangeline Downs Meet, which opens on April 6th.
3-12-11
Anatolia breezed four furlongs in company today over the fast main track at Fair Grounds. After trailing initially, she easily passed and outpaced her rivals covering the four furlong distance in :50 flat. We entered her in a race to be run on Friday, but unfortunately the race did not make the card. The race was placed on the Extras, so we will enter her again tomorrow for a race to be run on next Saturday.
3-10-11
Grand Princess will make her first start with Evans Thoroughbred Racing on March 13th in race #1 at Delta Downs. The race is a $20,000 Louisiana-bred Maiden Claiming sprint going five furlongs on the main track. We will have journeyman jockey Frederick Carmouche, Jr. in the irons for the race, and they will break from post position #3 in the 10 horse field.
3-4-11
We have agreed to partner in the acquisition of 2007 Louisiana-bred filly Grand Princess. She is sired by Grand Appointment and out of Bag mare Miss Bagfire. She comes to us with six career starts and three second place finishes, which leaves all of her lifetime conditions intact. She ran against a good Maiden Special Weight field on March 2nd at Delta Downs, after a six month layoff. We will look to place her in a Maiden Claiming sprint with Louisiana-bred company in her next race.
2-27-11
Anatolia came out of her race in good shape. She enjoyed her day off yesterday with a little free time to run in field. She was back at work this morning in preparation for her final start of the Fair Grounds meet. We have identified a few good spots for her next run. If all goes well, we will get in some work with Chip in the saddle and look to race in a few weeks against Louisiana-bred company.
2-25-11
Anatolia broke well from the starting gate moving from 6th to 4th once the horses settled. Chip guided her on a nice rail path to the top of the stretch. Unfortunatly, she faced some pretty strong speed horses that stayed on well. She finished a tiring 6th, and did not show the late kick we saw in her last race. We will check her condition tomorrow, and if she comes back good we will look to get some morning works in her in a week or so with Chip in the saddle. We plan to get one more race in before the Fair Grounds meet ends, as we will look to return to the more accommodating confines of Louisiana-bred only company.
2-20-11
Anatolia will make her next start on Friday, February 25th in the 4th race at Fair Grounds Race Course. The race is an open $12,500 Maiden Claiming race going 5 1/2 furlongs on the main track. We will have veteran jockey David "Chip" Bourque in the irons for the race. They will break from post position #1 in the 9 horse field. The early Brisnet program has her listed as the fourth selection based on previous speed ratings. She has worked diligently at the starting gate since her last race and should be competitive if she breaks well.
2-14-11
Anatolia galloped an easy mile yesterday. If all goes as planned, she will breeze from the starting gate at Fair Grounds this weekend. If she comes out of the work with no problems, we will make race entry later during the week.
1-29-11
Anatolia came out of her race in good shape. She will begin working on improving her break from the starting gate as we look for a good spot for her next race.
1-27-11
Anatolia broke very slowly from the starting gate today and spotted the field at least five lengths. After the bad break, Trey Agilar allowed her to settle and slowly make up ground on the field. At the top of the stretch, she was over 16 lengths from the leader. Trey did not push her hard at the end, but guided her well down the stretch to finish 10th just 10 lengths from the leader. We will give her a little break and then back to work at the starting gate. If she can overcome her gate problem, she is going to be a very competitive racehorse.
1-23-11
Anatolia is listed at morning line odds of 20-1 for her debut. We made a change in jockey deciding to go with Trey Agilar who is having a very productive Fair Grounds meet. The field is made up of first-time starters and a number of lightly raced maidens. With a good break from the gate and a little racing luck, she should be competitive.
1-22-11
Anatolia will make her first career start on Thursday, January 27th in the 10th race at Fair Grounds Race Course. The race is a Louisiana Special Maiden Claiming race for three year old Louisiana-bred fillies. The five furlong sprint will be run over the main track. We will have veteran journeyman jockey Monica K. Stanley in the saddle for us. They are slated to break from post #9 in the 12 horse field.
1-20-11
Anatolia worked four furlongs from the starting gate in :51.40 today at Fair Grounds over the fast main track. After today's work, she received her gate card and she is now eligible for race entry. Her break from the gate is still an area which needs much improvement, but it will come in time with repetition. We will enter her this weekend for a Louisiana-bred Maiden Claiming race to be run next week.
1-9-11
Anatolia worked at Fair Grounds again today. The published work-out will show a time of :39.60 for three furlongs from the starting gate. However, today's work was solely focused on breaking from the gate and getting gate approved. Unfortunately, she still hesitated when the gate opened and the rider worked her two furlongs and slowed to a gallop for the final furlong as we instructed. Ana has shown the speed and desire to compete, but she will have to improve her gate work before she is ready to go racing.
1-8-11
Anatolia worked three furlongs from the starting gate in :36.6 today at Fair Grounds over the fast main track. While the work-out was her best to-date, she will need to improve her break from the starting gate before she is ready to race.
1-2-11
Anatolia worked three furlongs in :37.8 today at Fair Grounds over the fast main track. There are a few possible races in the latest condition book. We will see how she comes back after today's work and plan accordingly.
12-19-10
Anatolia worked four furlongs in :53.20 today at Fair Grounds. Today's work was really not for time. She worked behind another horse so that she could experience running with dirt kicked in her face. She did well and kept to task. We will see how she looks after today's work and determine if she is ready to enter this week.
12-12-10
Anatolia completed her first official workout today at Fair Grounds. She breezed four furlongs from the starting gate in :51.8 over the fast main track. After a little time off to recover from some soreness, she did well for her first official breeze. We will check her condition over the next few days and look to breeze her again in a week or so, as she prepares for a possible race at the end of the month.
On a sad note, our promising two-year old Wireline will not be able to continue training for a racing career due to problems with his knees. We hope to find him a new career.
11-20-10
Wireline breezed four furlongs from the starting gate in :52.76 today at the Evangeline Training Center. His time ranked 39th of the 49 horses who breezed the four furlong distance. We are pointing him towards a race at Fair Grounds in early December. He will breeze one more time before we make race entry.
11-20-10
Anatolia will take a few more days off, as she works through some soreness in her shins. We do not want to overwork her, as she appears to have a bright racing future. This will set her back a little, but she should be able to gallop at Fair Grounds next weekend. The Fair Grounds work will also help her to get familiar with the track surroundings. When she is healthy and ready to go, the plan is to point her towards Louisiana-Bred Maiden Special Weight (MSW) competition.
11-10-10
Wireline breezed three furlongs from the starting gate in :39 today over a fast track at Evangeline Downs. The work-out was done without company. This was also his first official work from the stating gate, so we are pleased that he broke cleanly and ran well. We will enter him in a training race at Evangeline Training Center. The race is scheduled for Wednesday, November 17th. This race should give us an idea of where he is in his racing development.
10-30-10
Wireline breezed three furlongs in :38.92 today at the Evangeline Training Center. His time ranked 35th of the 40 horses who breezed the three furlong distance. This was the first official workout for our promising 2 year-old in over six months, so he should improve in the coming weeks as he continues to train for his racing debut.
10-9-10
We are excited about the addition of Wireline to our racing stable. Wireline is a 2 year old Louisiana-Bred gelding by Wire Me Collect. Wire Me Collect is a multiple stakes winner with over $600,000 in lifetime earnings. He has sired several stakes winners and has over $3 million in progeny earnings. We are pointing Wireline to Fair Grounds Race Course for his racing debut where he will be trained by Shelton LeBlanc.
10-8-10
Blazing Thunder continues to experience sever soreness. We have made the decision to retire him from racing. We will try to find him a good home with a new career.
9-10-10
Blazing Thunder was scratched from his race by the track veterinarian during the post parade prior to being loaded into the starting gate. After some recent setbacks, we will look to rebound at the Delta Downs meet in late October or early November.
9-8-10
Anatolia received her first set of horseshoes today. We are hopeful that she will be able to begin some official breezing in the next few weeks. The early plan is to have her ready for opening day at Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans, which is scheduled to start in late November on Thanksgiving Day.
9-4-10
Blazing Thunder worked four furlongs in :52.34 at the Evangeline Training Center today. This was his first official work-out on the slower training center surface. He lugged in towards the rail, which hurt his time, but he came out of the work in good condition. After the work-out, we entered him in a $20,000 Maiden Claiming race going 6 furlongs on the main track at Louisiana Downs in Shreveport-Bossier, Louisiana. The race will be #5 on the Friday, September 10th program. We will have "hot" apprentice jockey Luis Negron riding for us, as we are slated to break from post #9 in the nine horse field.
8-28-10
Anatolia is slowly rounding into shape. She is building her stamina on the 5/8th's track in Mississippi and also working on walking through the starting gate. She worked today at the Evangeline Training Center, and looked impressive for her first time on the "big" track. We will take it slowly with her, but we are hopeful that she will be able to compete as a two-year old later this year.
8-28-10
Blazing Thunder came up a little sore yesterday, so we decided to scratch him from tonight's race. After watching the race, it was unfortunate that we had to scratch him, as the fractions were very slow in a very weak field. We will look for similar conditions for his next race.
8-26-10
We have made a jockey change for our race on Saturday. Leading apprentice jockey Luis Negron will ride for us. Luis has a 34% in-the-money racing percentage this season including 15 wins. As he is an apprentice, we will get a 5 lbs. weight allowance.
8-25-10
Blazing Thunder has been entered to run in race #5 on Saturday, August 28th at Evangeline Downs. The race is a $5,000 Louisiana-Bred Maiden Claiming race going 6 furlongs over the main track. The "early" program has him breaking from the 14th post position in a full field of 14 horses. We will have journeyman jockey Nathaniel Puello riding for us, as we try to end the 2010 Evangeline Downs meet on a strong note.
8-12-10
Blazing Thunder breezed four furlongs from the starting gate over a fast track in an impressive :49.6 this morning at Evangeline Downs. His time was 2nd best of the13 horses who breezed the four furlong distance. He looks to be ready for his next racing opportunity.
7-21-10
Blazing Thunder was entered in a Louisiana-bred race scheduled to run Saturday, July 24th, but he was not selected. We will give him a little more time off before looking at possible races for next month.
7-19-10
Blazing Thunder breezed three furlongs over the main track this morning at Evangeline Downs. He covered the three furlong distance in :38 flat. The work out was a very light breeze to check his condition for a possible next race. We will see how he looks over the next day or so. If he is ready, we will enter on July 21st for a $5,000 Louisiana-bred Maiden Claiming race going 6 furlongs over the main track. If the race is a go, it will be run on Saturday, July 24th.
7-7-10
Blazing Thunder broke last from the gate and trailed the field during the early part of the race. He settled in and made up some ground through the turn where he sat in 10th place. At the top of the stretch he began to run and moved into 7th place. Unfortunately, he could not reach the leaders and finished 7th seven lengths behind the winner. We will check his condition over the next few days and look to make some adjustments before our next race.
7-1-10
Blazing Thunder worked four furlongs in :50.6 over the main track this morning at Evangeline Downs. He has been entered to run in the 9th race on Wednesday, July 7th at Evangeline Downs. The race is a $5,000 Maiden Claiming race going 6 furlongs on the main track. He is scheduled to break from post position #5 in the 12 horse field. Janaris Landry will have the mount for us once again, as we appear to be in position for a good run.
6-17-10
Blazing Thunder broke much better from the gate today and was well placed through the back stretch. He was 5th at the top of the stretch and quickly made a move to 4th. Unfortunately, he ran out of steam in the late stretch and finished 7th. We will give him a small break and look to race again in a few weeks.
6-11-10
Blazing Thunder has been entered to run in the 1st race on Thursday, June 17th at Evangeline Downs. The race is a $10,000 Maiden Claiming race going 6 1/2 furlongs on the main track. The "early" program has him slated to break from post position #10 in a 12 horse field. We will have Janaris Landry in the irons for us once again, and we are hoping the added distance will fit well with his late running style.
6-5-10
Blazing Thunder broke slowly from the gate and spotted the field 10 or more lengths. Our jockey Janaris Landry allowed him to settle and then slowly gain ground. At the top of the stretch, he was full of run and finished a very willing 5th. We will check his condition over the next few days and then begin looking for a good spot for his next race.
6-2-10
Blazing Thunder is scheduled to make his first start in the 5th race on Saturday, June 5th at Evangeline Downs. The race is a $15,000 Maiden Claiming race going 5 1/2 furlongs on the main track. He will break from post position #2 in the 12 horse field. We have decided to put apprentice jockey Janaris Landry in the saddle for us, which gives us a five pound weight allowance.
5-29-10
Blazing Thunder breezed four furlongs from the starting gate at Evangeline Downs this morning in :51.2. After a brief break in training to rest, his time was much improved from his previous four furlong work-outs. We will look to enter for a race scheduled to run next weekend.
5-8-10
Blazing Thunder breezed five furlongs from the starting gate in a solid 1:05.8 this morning at Evangeline Downs. His time tied him for 10th best out of 13 horses who breezed the five furlong distance. He did as asked, and we will now begin looking at upcoming races for his career debut.
5-6-10
Anatolia was shipped to a farm in Poplarville, Mississippi today where she will begin her breaking training and start her initial conditioning. She will spend 60 or more days on the farm and then be placed in race training in preparation for her 2 year-old racing campaign.
4-30-10
Blazing Thunder breezed four furlongs from the starting gate at Evangeline Downs this morning in :53.4. Today's breeze was done without company. We will look to breeze him again next weekend. Depending on the results of that work-out and his condition, we may begin looking for a spot for his racing debut.
4-21-10
Blazing Thunder breezed four furlongs from the starting gate at Evangeline Downs this morning in :52. If he continues to progress in his development, we should look to race early May.
4-12-10
Blazing Thunder breezed an easy three furlongs in :37.2 this morning at Evangeline Downs. This was his second official workout.
4-9-10
Toms Breeze has suffered a career-ending injury. We had high hopes for the filly, but unfortunately she will be unable to continue.
4-4-10
We have agreed to partner on 2006 Louisiana-bred gelding Blazing Thunder. He is sired by Storm Day and out of Announce mare Specialanouncement. Storm Day had a successful racing career running second in the Turfway Park Fall Championship S. G-3 and third in the Warfield S. and Governor's H. He was a versatile and consistent runner winning or placing in 12 of 20 career starts on both the turf and dirt from 6 to 9 furlongs with earnings of $197,908. His progeny earnings total nearly $4.5 million with over 100 race winners. Blazing Thunder is in full race training and completed his first official two furlong breeze in :24.8 at Evangeline Downs on Friday, April 2nd. He will be trained by Shelton LeBlanc and will look to break his maiden at Evangeline Downs this spring.
4-2-10
Toms Breeze completed her first official three furlong breeze in :39 flat today at Evangeline Downs. Her time was 9th fastest out of 12 breezes. She will get a few days off and get back to work next week.
3-26-10
Toms Breeze completed a very impressive unofficial work-out today on the main track at Evangeline Downs. She was very relaxed on the track and showed a very competitive spirit when running in the company of other horses. We are pointing to an official work-out on Friday, April 2nd or Saturday, April 3rd.
3-19-10
We have decided to move Toms Breeze to Trainer Shelton LeBlanc. Darren is a young upstart trainer who stables his horses at Pete LeBlanc Stables in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. He will split training time between the fully equipped stable and the Evangeline Training Center.
3-4-10
Toms Breeze is steadily rounding into condition. She will begin some short work next week and hopefully complete an officially timed breeze in a few weeks. The first Evangeline Downs Condition Book is out, and the Louisiana-bred races will once again offer very lucrative purse money. Our now 2 Year-Old filly, Anatolia, is enjoying her time eating and growing on the farm. We are hopeful that she will be ready to begin the breaking process in May or early June.
2-4-10
Toms Breeze arrived at Pink Crown Farms on Sunday, January 31st. She is beginning to adapt to the daily routine at the training center. This 4 year-old chestnut filly by Thunder Breeze has good size and should be very competitive this spring with state-bred racing company.
1-11-1o
We have agreed to partner in the acquisition of 2006 Louisiana-bred filly Toms Breeze. She is by sire THUNDER BREEZE and out of 11 race winner Crystal Manor. Thunder Breeze is a stakes winner and multiple stakes placed winner of $267,200. Toms Breeze has been breezing in preparation for full race training beginning in February at Pink Crown Farms in Longview, Texas. She should be ready to begin her racing career this Spring, when the Evangeline Downs Meet opens in early April. She will be trained by up-and-coming trainer Laura Daily.
12-13-09
Nile Tigress has been sold via private purchase. She will get the extended time off she needs before she begins training for her new career in the field of Dressage. Good Luck to her new owner.
12-5-09
Nile Tigress finished a disappointing 7th. She broke fairly well, but quickly retreated. She is most likely due for some extended well deserved rest, as she has had an aggressive training and racing schedule. We will check her condition and determine what is best for her.
11-30-09
Nile Tigress is entered in Race #1 at Fair Grounds Race Course. The 6 furlong race will run on the main track on Saturday, December 5th. This race is for $10,000 claimers who have never won three races, with a $15,000 total purse. We will have apprentice jockey Chester Bonnet in the saddle for us, and as such we will get a 5 lbs weight allowance. We are slated to break from the 1st post position in a 7 horse field. Nile has been training well with trainer Elliott Necaise , and we expect to be more competitive this time out.
11-8-09
Nile Tigress broke from the gate in pretty good fashion, but the leaders quickly got away from her. Unfortunately, she had to take a wide trip the entire race finishing in 8th position. We will give her a few weeks of rest before racing again, as we have had a pretty aggressive racing schedule over the last month or two.
11-5-09
Nile Tigress is entered in Race #4 at Fair Grounds Race Course. The 5 1/2 furlong sprint on the Sunday, November 8th will be Nile's Fair Grounds debut. This race is for $8,000 - $10,000 claimers who have never won three races, with a $15,000 total purse. We will have nationally ranked jockey James Graham in the saddle for us in our racing meet debut. We are slated to break from the 1st post position in a 9 horse field. The race represents a very competitive step up in class.
10-27-09
Nile Tigress was delivered safely to the farm of trainer Elliott Necaise over the weekend. She will begin training later this week for her Fair Grounds Race Course debut sometime next month. Opening day for the Fair Grounds Meet is Friday, November 6th.
10-22-09
Nile Tigress was well placed throughout the race, but did not have her usual late kick needed to reach the front runners, as she finished 6th. This will conclude the racing meet for us at Hoosier Park. Tianna Richardville did a great job of training Nile, and Rodney Prescott did an excellent job in the saddle. We will give Nile a few days off before she prepares to travel to New Orleans where we have decided to compete at the Fair Grounds Race Course and possibly Delta Downs in Vinton, Louisiana. Nile will be trained by Elliott Necaise at Fair Grounds.
10-20-09
Nile Tigress is entered in Race #8 at Hoosier Park, which is scheduled to run on Thursday, October 22nd. The race is a $5,000 claiming race going 5 1/2 furlongs on the main track with a purse of $10,500. This will be another sprint race against a very strong field of contenders. She will break from the 3rd post in a 10 horse field.
